Lily Meneghel’s life journey veered unexpectedly from the pursuit of a Political Science degree in Canberra to a transformative decision at the age of 22—relocating over 3000km to Port Hedland to join the mining and resources sector. Despite initial challenges, including isolation and separation from her family, Lily’s determination fuelled her career evolution.
Beginning with computer programming, Lily swiftly transitioned to operational roles, making a mark with innovative projects. At Roy Hill, she orchestrated the successful relocation of the Automated Haulage System Control Operations, showcasing her leadership in managing complex transitions.
Lily’s career achievements extend to optimising supply chains and reducing operational costs, earning her accolades such as the Breakthrough Project Award at BHP. Her focus on efficiency and innovation contributed to record throughput and significant savings for the organisations she worked with.
Beyond professional success, Lily’s contributions highlight her commitment to empowering others, particularly women, in the resources sector. Initiatives like the Parental Return To Control Program and Control Operations Traineeship Program demonstrate her dedication to supporting work-life balance and fostering diversity.
Actively involved in mentoring programs, Lily has shared her insights with around 100 individuals, contributing to the sector’s inclusivity. Her participation in panels and events reflects a broader commitment to advancing inclusion, diversity, and the impact of technology in the resources industry.
