Lab61 – Robotics Skills Hub
Born out of WA company Nexxis, Lab 61 is a female and Indigenous-led robotics and technical skills centre delivering programs for Year 5 through to university, with a particular focus on female participation. The vision is to educate, influence and inspire a new and diverse generation of robotics, engineering and technology professionals that will help form WA’s workforce of the future. Since launching in April 2020 with a Foundation Robotics Academy for Year 5 to 6 students, Lab 61 has had more than 50 students participate in its programs, more than half of them female. The long-term objective is to engage 725 students annually – 30 to 50 per cent female and 3- 5 per cent Indigenous – and have up to three-quarters of the students who participate in industry placement programs go on to secure employment with a partner company.
Although it has its roots in Perth, Lab 61 has much broader ambitions, with an aim to expand the training hub concept regionally and then nationally.
