Two winners at the 2020 Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA Women In Resources Awards are celebrating recognition on the national stage.

Vanessa Davies, from the Compass Group in Perth, and Jennifer Ward, from Newmont’s Boddington gold mine, accepted major awards at the BHP Women in Resources National Awards.

Ms Ward was recognised for her “strong leadership and influence on-site and in the community” with the Thiess Outstanding Australian Tradeswoman, Operator or Technician Award.

She had been the winner of the Outstanding Operator/Technician/Trade Woman at WIRA 2020 for her work as a Haul Truck Operator, Crew Trainer and Step-up Supervisor, responsible for 52 employees and actively coaching and mentoring crew members.

Ms Davies, who is Compass Group’s National General Manager of Diversity, Inclusion and Indigenous Engagement, accepted the St Barbara Excellence in Company Programs and Performance Award for the Launch Into Work program, which supports long-term unemployed women.

Earlier this year Launch Into Work was judged the Outstanding Company Initiative – Large Company at WIRA 2020.

The Women In Resources Awards are designed to recognise individuals and organisations working to build a world-class industry, which provides attractive career opportunities and enhances the recognition and participation of women in the sector.

The 2021 winners will be announced on Friday March 5.
